In order to fulfill its assigned roles and responsibilities, the NUAC operates statutory conferences, including the General Assembly, Provincial Assemblies, Executive Committee, Central Committee and Standing Committees affiliated with the Central Committee.
General Assembly (Inaugural Session)
The Chairperson convenes the General Assembly once every two years for all council members to attend.

[ Article 20 of the National Unification Advisory Council Act]

Meetings of the Unification Advisory Council shall be convened by the Chairperson once every two years. If the Chairperson deems it necessary or at least one-third of all members demand it, a meeting shall be convened.
Provincial Assembly
The Chairperson convenes the Provincial Assemblies and Vice-chairpersons preside over the conferences of their respective provincial assemblies.

- Provincial Assemblies are convened once every two years, in the year when the General Assembly is not held, by
  each city, province and overseas area with all council members in attendance according to their representation.

  • If necessary, the Chairperson shall convene a meeting of the provincial assembly, but the Vice-chairperson who was born in the relevant region shall preside over the meeting: Provided, That if there is no Vice-chairperson born in the place or the Vice-chairperson is unable to perform his/her duties due to an unavoidable reason, the council member designated by the Chairperson shall preside over the meeting.
Executive Committee
  • Composition

  • The Executive Committee consists of up to 50 members appointed by the Chairperson, and the Executive Vice-chairperson assumes the role of the committee's chief.
  • Duties

  • Enact, revise and abolish the rules and regulations on managing the Council
  • Review the decommissioning of council members
  • Review other issues on managing the council
Central Committee
  • Composition

  • The Central Committee consists of 300-500 members appointed by the Chairperson taking regional and professional representation into account.
  • The Executive Vice-chairperson assumes the role of the committee's chief.
  • Duties

  • Review assigned issues
  • Deliberate on items ordered by the Chairperson
  • Review the deliberations of standing committees
Standing Committees
  • Composition

  • There are 10 Standing Committees affiliated with the Central Committee, and the members of the Central Committee are affiliated with each standing committee given their professional career, position and region of origin.
  • The Chairperson appoints the chief and secretary of each standing committee.
  • Each standing committee includes professionals with specialized knowledge and insight who are able to devise practical advice and suggestions on unification and the inter-Korean policy of the South Korean government. The standing committees document policy proposals through in-depth research activities on major pending inter-Korean issues and mid-to-long-term unification tasks.
  • Duties

  • Deliberate on agenda items proposed by the chief of the Central Committee
  • Review the preliminary standing committee agenda to propose to the Central Committee
  • Conduct surveys and research on unification issues for each specialized field, and develop policies
  • Gather opinions to make proposals for unification discussions of each field

  - Researching the direction of the National Unification Advisory Council’s mid-

Peace Development Standing Committee Research, study, and proposals regarding the establishment of peace on the Korean peninsula and development of Inter-Korean relations

  - Plans to develop Inter-Korean relations for peaceful unification
  - Plans to establish Inter-Korean dialogue and mutual trust
  - Plans to carry forward the Basic Inter-Korean Agreement
  - Plans to form a dialogue of peace and expand nationwide sympathy
International Cooperation Standing Committee Research, study, and proposals regarding international cooperation for the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula and establishment of peace

  - Plans to denuclearize the Korean peninsula and establish a peace system
  - Plans to realize international cooperation and public diplomacy to establish
     peace on the Korean peninsula
  - Plans for cooperation in the military and national security fields for peace to
     take root on the Korean peninsula
  - Plans to establish a global network of Koreans
Economic Cooperation Standing Committee Research, study, and proposals regarding ways of cooperation in forming a new economic map for the Korean peninsula and in the fields of science and technology, resources, energy, and environment

  - Plans to initiate a new economic map of the Korean peninsula
  - Plans to form an economic community between the two Koreas
  - Plans to activate Inter-Korean economic cooperation and exchange
  - Plans for Inter-Korean cooperation in the fields of science and technology,
     resources, energy, and environment
Social and Cultural Exchange Standing Committee Research, study, and proposals regarding exchange, cooperation, and combination in the two Koreas’ social, cultural, art, sports, and tourism fields for the development of Inter-Korean relations

  - Plans to recover the homogeneity of nation in the unification process
  - Plans for exchange and cooperation in the two Koreas’ social, culture, art,
     sports, and tourism fields
  - Plans to establish a networking and visiting system between the people of
     the two Koreas in the culture, art, and sports fields
  - Cooperation plans for the preservation of the two Koreas’ cultural artifacts
     and cultural heritages
Unification Legislation Standing Committee Research, study, and proposals regarding the laws and systems for National Unification Contract and South-North Korea integration

  - Plans to specify the National Unification Contract
  - Institutionalization plans for peaceful unification and development of
     Inter-Korean relations
  - Plans for internal and external cooperation to improve North Korean
     human rights
  - Plans for creating family communities, i.e., reunion of separated families,
     repatriation of POWs and kidnapped families
Citizen Communication Standing Committee Collecting public opinion from people by function and region; research, study, and proposals on creating national and international sympathy for unification

  - Collecting public opinion on unification from functional societies and
     regional communities
  - Plans for strengthening awareness of peace and unification among
     ordinary citizens and teenagers
  - Plans for cooperation with citizen communities to create sympathy for
     peace and unification
  - Plans for peace and unification education and promotion to the community
     of overseas Koreans
Religion Standing Committee Research, study, and proposals regarding harmony and communication between peoples, exchange of religion between the two Koreas, humanitarian support for North Korea, ways of managing separation conflict

  - Plans to realize reconciliation and cooperation between peoples as well
     as development
  - Plans for invigorating the exchange of religion between the two Koreas
  - Plans for cooperation and humanitarian aid to improve the quality of life for
     North Korean residents
  - Plans for the management of separation conflicts
Women’s Standing Committee Research, study, and proposals regarding the invigoration of women’s unification movements and support for the settlement of North Korean refugees

  - Plans to invigorate women’s unification movements and strengthen ability
     for peace
  - Plans for cooperation and exchange between Inter-Korean women
  - Plans to support North Korean refugees’ settlement
  - Plans to create women’s unification network at home and abroad
Youth Standing Committee Research, study, and proposals regarding the invigoration of teenagers’ unification movements and exchange and cooperation between the teenagers of the two Koreas

  - Plans to invigorate teenagers’ unification movements
  - Plans to increase exchange and cooperation between the teenagers of the
     two Koreas
  - Plans to strengthen teenagers’ ability to prepare for unification
  - Plans to establish a unification network for teenagers at home and abroad
